Renovation and extension of a residential building in the historic core of Alfama, with a complete interior transformation into high-quality contemporary apartments, within a listed heritage area.
About the project
The project extended the original building and completely transformed its interior, creating contemporary apartments built to high standards of quality and modernity within the historic core of Alfama and Castelo.
The main façade keeps its characteristic eight vertical rows of openings, with full-width balconies on the lower floors, stone-framed windows, a cornice and four dormer windows — preserving the historic character of the ensemble.
The project navigated the planning and heritage constraints of the listed area, securing municipal approval and reconciling a contemporary residential programme with the architectural identity of the neighbourhood.
